Let us pray.
O God, you have assured the human family of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26

Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners." While he was saying these things to them, suddenly a leader of the synagogue came in and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live." And Jesus got up and followed him, with his disciples. Then suddenly a woman who had been suffering from haemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, for she said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be made well." Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And instantly the woman was made well. When Jesus came to the leader's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, he said, "Go away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. And the report of this spread throughout that district.

I present Wren James LeClair to receive the sacrament of baptism.
When
all have been presented the celebrant asks the parents and sponsors,
Will you be responsible for seeing that the children you present are nurtured in the faith and life of the Christian community?
Parents and sponsors,
I will, with God’s help.
Celebrant
Will you by your prayers and witness help this child to grow into the full stature of Christ?
Parents and sponsors,
I will, with God’s help.
Then
the celebrant asks the following questions of the candidates or the parents and
sponsors.
Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?
I renounce them.
Do
you renounce the evil powers of this world which corrupt and destroy the
creatures of God?
I renounce them.
Do you renounce all sinful desires that draw you from the love of God?
I renounce them.
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Saviour?
I do.
Do you put your whole trust in his grace and love?
I do.
Do you promise to obey him as your Lord?
I do.
After
all have been presented, the celebrant addresses the congregation, saying,
Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support this person in their life in Christ?

The Celebration of Baptism
Thanksgiving over the Water
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We
thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over water the Holy Spirit
moved in the beginning of creation. Through water you led the children of
Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In water your
Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as
the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from
the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We
thank you, Father, for the water of baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in
his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the
Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his
fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Now
sanctify this water by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who are here
cleansed from sin and born again, may continue for ever in the risen life of
Jesus Christ our Saviour.
To
him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, now and for ever.
Amen.

you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God,
The Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.

The Baptism

The
celebrant makes the sign of the cross on the forehead of each one (using chrism
if desired) saying to each,
I sign you with the cross,
and mark you as Christ’s own for ever.

The
celebrant, at a place in the full sight of the congregation, prays over the
newly baptized, saying,
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised him to the new life of grace. Sustain him, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give him an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.
The Giving of the Light
Receive the light of Christ,
to show that you have passed from darkness to light.
When
the newly baptized have received candles, the people say,
Let your light so shine before others
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.

We receive you into the household of God.

We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is
indeed right that we should praise you, gracious God, for you created all
things. You formed us in your own image: as your children you created
us. When we turned away from you in sin, you did not cease to care for us, but
opened a path of salvation for all people. You made a covenant with the
Hebrews, and through your servants Abraham and Sarah gave the promise of a
blessing to all nations. Through Moses you led your people from bondage into
freedom; through the prophets you renewed your promise of salvation.
Therefore,
with them, and with all your saints who have served you in every age, we give
thanks and raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.

God of power and might,

Holy God,
source of life and goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise. In the
fullness of time, you sent your Son Jesus Christ, to share our human nature, to
live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He healed the sick and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners; he opened the
eyes of the blind and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and
to those in need. In all things he fulfilled your gracious will.
On the
night he freely gave himself to death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and
when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and
said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”
After
supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to
them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant,

Gracious
God, his perfect sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death; by raising him
to life you give us life for evermore.

we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Recalling
his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in
glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit
upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be
one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Through
Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory
