Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

Bless the Lord who forgives all
our sins.
His mercy endures for ever.
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Confession and Absolution
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. Let us confess our sins remembering before God the times when we have fallen from temptation into sin.
We confess to you our selfishness
and lack of love:
fill us with your Spirit. Lord, have mercy.

We confess to you our fear and failure in sharing our faith:
fill us with your Spirit. Christ, have mercy.

Let us pray,
Almighty God, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross, give us faith to perceive his glory, that being strengthened by his grace we may be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The
Proclamation of the Word - First Reading: Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, "Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir." But the word of the Lord came to him, "This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir." He brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your descendants be." And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. Then he said to him, "I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess." But he said, "O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?" He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates."

He said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, 'Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.' Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

With confidence and trust let us pray to the God of all creation, saying:
in your mercy hear us.
For the one holy catholic and apostolic
Church throughout the world, for Linda our Primate, Sandra our Bishop, give us
courage to give up our preoccupation with ourselves and to give more time to
your mission in the world. Lord of compassion,
in your mercy hear us.
For the vision and mission of this Parish, that in faithful witness we may show your love and justice in all that we do. Gather us up, as your children and protect us, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings. Lord of compassion,
For us in our hope make this place a symbol of your covenant with Abraham and Sarah – a place of welcome, of belonging, of justice, of mercy and of love. Help us to honour the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; help us create equality and safety for visible minorities, women, and for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation. Lord of compassion,
For peace in the world, that a spirit of respect and reconciliation may grow among nations and peoples. Give your world the courage to give up war, bitterness and hatred, and to seek peace. We pray especially at this time for peace in Ukraine and for all people in eastern Europe. Lord of compassion,
in your mercy hear us.
For the poor, the persecuted, the sick, and all who suffer. We give thanks for all who work the front lines in helping to fight the pandemic. We also pray for refugees, prisoners, and all in danger; that they may be relieved and protected. Give us the courage to give up quarrels, strife and jealousy in our families, neighbourhoods and communities. Lord of compassion,
in your mercy hear us.
For those we know who are ill at home or in the hospital, especially,…

Gather us to yourself in tenderness, open our ears to listen to your word, and teach us to live faithfully as people confident of the fulfillment of your promises. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right that we should praise
you, gracious God, for you created all things. You formed us in your own image:
male and female you created us. When we turned away from you in sin, you did
not cease to care for us, but opened a path of salvation for all people. You
made a covenant with Israel, and through your servants Abraham and Sarah gave
the promise of a blessing to all nations. Through Moses you led your people
from bondage into freedom; through the prophets you renewed your promise of
salvation. Therefore, with them, and with all your saints who have served you
in every age, we give thanks and raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your
name.

holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Holy God, source of life and
goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise. In the fullness of time, you
sent your Son Jesus Christ, to share our human nature, to live and die as one
of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He healed the sick
and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners; he opened the eyes of the blind
and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and to those in need.
In all things he fulfilled your gracious will.
On the night he freely gave
himself to death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given
thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat:
this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of
wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “ Drink this,
all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for
many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the
remembrance of me.”
Gracious God, his perfect
sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death; by raising him to life you give
us life for evermore.
Therefore we proclaim the mystery
of faith.
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Recalling his death, proclaiming
his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you,
Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these
gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy
people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Through Christ, with Christ, and
in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty
Father, now and for ever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
