The Gathering of the Community (The lighting of the Pascal Candle)
At the beginning, when the Spirit of God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.

The lighting of the Pascal Candle

As God is present with us, in our waking and in our sleeping; in our joys and in our sorrows; in our life and in our death; and at that table where the saints feast for ever, let us proclaim:
               God is in this place!

643: Holy Spirit, Come with Power

Come, Holy Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Come, Holy Spirit,
and fan the flame of your love in our hearts.
God of love, of your goodness give life to the fire of the Spirit which Christ brought upon the earth and longs to see blazing throughout the world, through him who lives and reigns with you and the Spirit now and for ever. Amen.

Alleluia! Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
May his grace and peace be with you.
May he fill our hearts with joy.

The Collect of the Day
Let us pray,
Almighty and everliving God, who fulfilled the promises of Easter by sending us your Holy Spirit and opening to every race and nation the way of life eternal, keep us in the unity of your Spirit, that every tongue may tell of your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Proclamation of the Word – Acts 2:1-21
A Reading From The Book Of Acts
When the day of Pentecost had come, the apostles were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs - in our own languages we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power." All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" But others sneered and said, "They are filled with new wine." But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 'In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'"
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel: John 14:15-17; 25-27
The Lord be with you.
               And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Prayers of the Community
Help us, O God, to remain faithful to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers. This day, as we celebrate the fresh breeze of your Holy Spirit, we pray saying, “Come, Holy Spirit, come.”

Come, Holy Spirit, creator, and renew the face of the earth. Bless our activity on land and sea and our industry and help us work together to safeguard the integrity of your creation, and respect, sustain and renew the life of the Earth.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, counsellor, and touch our lips that we may proclaim your word. For our commitment to equality and an end to sexism and racism; our commitment to truth and reconciliation with Indigenous people. Help us see you in one another and help us proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, power from on high: make us agents of peace and ministers of wholeness. We pray for peace in Ukraine, the Middle East and throughout the world. Help us strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, breath of God, give life to the dry bones of this exiled age, and make us a living people, holy and free. Help us resist evil and, whenever we sin, repent and return to you.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, wisdom and truth: strengthen us in the risk of faith. We pray for the world as we try and imagine life with COVID-19; we give thanks for health care workers, and front line and essential workers. Help us to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbour as ourselves.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, source of healing and wholeness, be with those who are ill. We pray for all those we know who are ill at home or in the hospital, especially…
-
… and others we may name out loud or in our hearts…
-
… that they may know your love, forgiveness and presence.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, faithful to us in times of grief and loss, be with those who are dying and who have died, remembering especially,
-
… that they may share in the risen life of Christ.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Come, Holy Spirit, be with those who feel guilty, or are broken-hearted, we pray for the absolution and remission of our sins and offences.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Thanksgiving for the Holy Spirit
Like a mighty, rushing wind, like tongues of living flame, the Spirit fills the place where God’s people meet. What no eye has seen nor ear heard, nor the human mind conceived; what God has prepared for those who love him, has now been revealed by the Spirit. The Spirit assures us that we are now children of God; and if children, then also heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.

Source of freedom, giver of life, blessing and glory are yours, O God.
Blessed be God for ever.

Giving the PIN-WHEEL
Accept this PIN-WHEEL, a symbol of God’s Holy and life-giving Spirit, the fresh wind of God’s love, showing that we are children of the Light.

Commission
As part of God’s Church here on Prince Edward Island, we are called upon to live out what we proclaim.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, will you dare to walk into the future, trusting God to be your guide?
By the Spirit’s power, we will.
Will you dare to embrace each other and grow together in love?
We will.
Will you dare to share your riches in common and minister to each other in need?
We will.
Will you dare to pray for each other until your hearts beat with the longings of God?
We will.
Will you dare to carry the light of Christ into the world’s dark places?
We will.
Sustain us, O Lord, and renew us in the powerful wind of your Holy Spirit; and fan the flame of that same Spirit in each of us and in this community. In Christs’ Name we pray. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
               and also with you.

Prayer Over the Gifts
Let us pray,
Giver of life, receive all we offer you this day. Let the Spirit you bestow on your Church continue to work in the world through the hearts of all who believe. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer 2
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

We give you thanks and praise, almighty God, through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer. He is your living Word, through whom you have created all things.

By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh of the Virgin Mary and shared our human nature. He lived and died as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

In fulfilment of your will he stretched out his hands in suffering, to bring release to those who place their hope in you; and so he won for you a holy people.

He chose to bear our griefs and sorrows, and to give up his life on the cross, that he might shatter the chains of evil and death, and banish the darkness of sin and despair. By his resurrection he brings us into the light of your presence.

Now with all creation we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious God, accept our praise, through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; who on the night he was handed over to suffering and death, took bread and gave you thanks, saying, “Take, and eat: this is my body which is broken for you.” In the same way he took the cup, saying, “This is my blood which is shed for you. When you do this, you do it in memory of me.”

Remembering, therefore, his death and resurrection, we offer you this bread and this cup, giving thanks that you have made us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

We ask you to send your Holy Spirit upon the offering of your holy Church. Gather into one all who share in these sacred mysteries, filling them with the Holy Spirit and confirming their faith in the truth, that together we may praise you and give you glory through your Servant, Jesus Christ.

All glory and honour are yours, Father and Son, with the Holy Spirit in the holy Church, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread
We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body,
for we all share in the one bread.
