The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us remind ourselves of the greatest commandments,
Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.
Guardian of the weak, turn the place we live into strongholds of your grace, temples of your presence, and citadels of your justice, so that the most vulnerable and most powerful may find peace in the strong name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Reading: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and said, "Look, we are your bone and flesh. For some time, while Saul was king over us, it was you who led out Israel and brought it in. The Lord said to you: It is you who shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you who shall be ruler over Israel." So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. David occupied the stronghold, and named it the city of David. David built the city all around from the Millo inward. And David became greater and greater, for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.

Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, "Prophets are not without honour, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house." And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them." So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Let us offer our prayers for the healing touch of Christ among all peoples, saying: hear our prayer.

For this parish, that you will draw us into a deeper relationship, help us trust in challenging times, and free us from fear. God of love,
hear our prayer.
For the gift of peace in all places of conflict, that you will open new pathways to liberty and justice for all. We pray for peace in the world, in our community, in our homes and in our hearts. God of love,
hear our prayer.
For this city and surrounding communities and those who live here, the poor and the rich, the elderly and the young, men and women: and for those who visit our Island home this summer. God of love,
For the healing of minds and hearts, that the touch of Jesus will restore those who have experienced abuse, discrimination, abandonment or ridicule, and give them peace and new hope. God of love,
hear our prayer.
For all those whose lives are threatened and changed by fierce storms, flooding and heat, that you will open the hearts of many to reach out to them and lift them up. God of love,
hear our prayer.
For all who are incapacitated in any way, that they may be respected as persons and receive the care they need. We pray for the victims of our society and those who minister to them: that you will be their help and defense. Help us create a community that is truly inclusive and affirming of all people. God of love,
hear our prayer.
For all those in need of our prayers, for those who are ill at home or in hospital, especially…

that they may know the compassion and love that filled the heart of Jesus. God of love,

Generous and life-giving God, whose Son became poor for our sake, hear our prayers and let all who draw near to you be healed and strengthened to serve you in the power of the Spirit that dwells among us, through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness.
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.

The Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray,
God of heaven and earth, receive our sacrifice of praise, and strengthen us for the perfect freedom of your service, through our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body,
for we all share in the one bread.
