to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray,
O God,

The crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. When his family heard it, they went out to restrain Jesus, for people were saying, "He has gone out of his mind." And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons." And he called them to him, and spoke to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered. Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" - for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit." Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you." And he replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking at those who sat around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."

The Prayers of the Community
Let us offer our prayers to the source of all love and all life, saying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”
 
Merciful Lord, we pray for all who dare to follow Christ: that we may be a royal priesthood, a holy nation, to the praise of Christ Jesus our Saviour. This day we give thanks and pray for health care and frontline workers.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
You call us to be a people of transforming love and justice and so we pray for Sandra our bishop, for all bishops and other ministers: that we may remain faithful to our calling and rightly proclaim the word of truth.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
We pray for the leaders of the nations, and all in authority: We pray for the many First Nations people suffering in the wake of the residential schools. Help us listen and hear the stories. The grief and anger are great, and the pain strikes in the midst of so many challenges. Let us mend one another in prayer, love, and concern.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
We pray for goodwill among nations and the well-being of all people. We pray that, in every heart there is the true love of peace, guide with wisdom the leaders of the nations, that justice, mercy, love and forgiveness may increase. We pray for peace in the Middle East and around the world.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
We pray for this province and those who live here, the poor and the rich, the elderly and the young, all your people: we pray especially for those we know who are ill at home or in the hospital…

… and others we may name out loud or in our hearts…

… that they may know your love, forgiveness and presence. We pray for all who are suffering with Covid-19 and for those who care for them.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
We pray that we may be strengthened in the faith. We pray for those who have died into the sure and holy comfort and peace of life everlasting. We remember especially,

… that they may share in the risen life of Christ.

We give thanks for all the saints who have proclaimed the Good News and that we too may be counted among your faithful witnesses. We pray for the victims of our society and those who minister to them: that you will be their help and defense.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
Eternal God, you create us by your power and redeem us by your love. Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves today in love and service to one another and to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
 
Confession and Absolution
Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy; welcoming sinners and invites us to this table. Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness.
 
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.
 
Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

You created us to love you with all our heart, and to love each other as ourselves, but we rebel against you by the evil that we do. In Jesus, your Son, you bring healing to our world and gather us into one great family.
 
Therefore, with all who serve you on earth and in heaven, we praise your wonderful name, as we say,

God of power and might,

We give you thanks and praise, loving Father, because in sending Jesus, your Son, to us you showed us how much you love us. He cares for the poor and the hungry. He suffers with the sick and the rejected. Betrayed and forsaken, he did not strike back but overcame hatred with love. On the cross he defeated the power of sin and death. By raising him from the dead you show us the power of your love to bring new life to all your people.
 
On the night before he gave up his life for us, Jesus, at supper with his friends, took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which is given for you.”
 
After supper, Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which is shed for you and for many, so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.”
 
Gracious God, with this bread and wine we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, and we offer ourselves to you in him. Send your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts, that we may know the presence of Jesus in the breaking of bread, and share in the life of the family of your children.
 
Father, you call us to be your servants; fill us with the courage and love of Jesus, that all the world may gather in joy at the table of your kingdom.
 
We sing your praise, almighty Father, through Jesus, our Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
 
The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
