A Prayer for Canada Day
Let us pray,
Almighty God, whose wisdom and whose love are over all, accept the prayers we offer for our nation. Give integrity to its citizens and wisdom to those in authority, that harmony and justice may be secured in obedience to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Jesus came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, "Prophets are not without honour, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house." And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them." So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

The Prayers of the Community
Let us offer our prayers for the healing touch of Christ among all peoples, saying: Lord, hear our prayer.
 
For the Church: we pray for Linda, our Primate, and Sandra, our bishop, that we may always be open to the immense generosity of God’s love and pass it on to others who are searching for healing and peace.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
For this parish: we pray that you will draw us into a deeper relationship with you and with one another, help us trust in challenging times, free us from fear, and lead us into reconciliation with the Indigenous people of this land.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
For the gift of peace: we pray that in all places of conflict, that you will help us open new pathways to ending violence among nations, within our nation, in our communities and in our homes, so that there will be safety, freedom and justice for everyone.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
For places of inclusion and wholeness: we pray for all people who are incapacitated by age, disability, mental illness, poverty, or illiteracy, that they may be respected as persons and receive the care they need. We pray for this country of Canada and for our friends in the USA celebrating Independence Day.
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
For health and wellbeing: we pray for the healing of minds and hearts, that the healing touch of Jesus will restore us and give us new hope. We are thankful for research workers who developed vaccines, for our tax dollars that funded the research, and for everyone involved in the distribution and administering of vaccines. We are thankful for all medical personnel and support staff who have worked so hard to keep us safe and healthy.
Lord, hear our prayer.

Dear friends in Christ,
God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy;
welcoming sinners and invites us to this table.
Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness.
 
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
 
In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;
 
by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.
