The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,

Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us pray,
Almighty God,
your Son has opened for us
a new and living way into your presence.

Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.

The Prayers of the Community
Gathering, at this time, as followers of Jesus, we lift our prayers for all people in need of a shepherd, saying: “Lord, hear our prayer.”
For the Church: that together we may be instruments of compassion and care for all who find life's journey difficult.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For this parish: that in these summer days we will find times of rest, renewal, and refreshment. We pray also for all who serve, especially those who wait on customers, or serve the poor and needy, and care for the sick, that they will continue to offer their services joyfully, and be renewed in your love.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For our nation: that you will guide us in living the values which we proclaim, so that all may experience life in its fullest. We are thankful for visitors to our Island home this summer and pray that their stay is safe and fun, for them and for us.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the world: that we continue our way out of this pandemic and be thankful for vaccines, for all medical personnel and support staff who have worked so hard to keep us safe and healthy.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For peace: that in all places of violence, injustice and unrest, you will shepherd them to new places of security, safety, justice, and dignity.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For all those shaken by tragedy of one kind or another: that you will show them a shepherd's care through the hands of others in their communities and sustain those aiding in rescue and care. Give hope and comfort to those who grieve.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For all those in need of prayers, for those who are ill at home or in the hospital, remembering especially,

that that they may be made strong with the power of Christ.

For all who labour: for good weather and abundant harvests of land and sea for all to share, and that you will teach us to use your creation for your greater praise, that all may share the good things you provide.

Wise and merciful God, hear the prayers we offer this day and kindle within us the compassion that stirred in the heart of Jesus, so that we may be living instruments of his love and peace. This we pray in Christ’s name. Amen.
 
Confession and Absolution
Dear friends in Christ,
God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy;
welcoming sinners and invites us to this table.
Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s forgiveness.
 
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.
 
Almighty God have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in eternal life;

We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. Therefore, Father, according to his command,
we remember his death,
we proclaim his resurrection,
we await his coming in glory;
 
and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.
 
We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
 
In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;
 
by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.
 
The Lord’s Prayer
