The Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.

Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

2 When Morning Gilds the Skies

The Collect of the Day
Let us pray.
Almighty and everliving God, increase in us your gift of faith, that forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to what is before, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Proclamation of the Word
Reading: 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5
A Reading From The First Second Of Paul To Timothy
As for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficieint, equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favourable or unfavourable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths. As for you, always be sober, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.
For the Word of God in scripture, among us and with us.
Thanks be to God.

Anthem: You Desire Truth/Teach Me Wisdom (Bruce Harding)

Psalm 119:97-104
Oh, how I love your law! all the day long it is in my mind. Your commandment has made me wiser than my enemies, and it is always with me.
The words of the Lord are sweeter than honey.
I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your decrees are my study. I am wiser than the elders, because I observe your commandments.
The words of the Lord are sweeter than honey.
I restrain my feet from every evil way, that I may keep your word. I do not shrink from your judgements, because you yourself have taught me.
The words of the Lord are sweeter than honey.
How sweet are your words to my taste! they are sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through your commandments I gain understanding; therefore I hate every lying way.
The words of the Lord are sweeter than honey.

The Gospel: Luke 18:1-8
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my opponent.' For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, 'Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.'" And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Sermon:

The Prayers of the People
In peace, let us join in prayer with God’s faithful people throughout the world, saying “hear our prayer.”

We pray for the unity of the church, that our life may reflect the love you have shown us, the peace you call us to and that we will be transformed by your love and mercy. And we pray for Shane Parker, our Primate, Sandra Fyfe our bishop, that we may be faithful to our Baptismal calling to walk in the way of love and service. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We pray for this congregation. Help us discern how you are calling us to contribute our gifts of time, talent and treasure to your mission so that we may serve you fruitfully and faithfully. Spark generosity that we may do all things in gratitude. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We pray for all those who have lost life, livelihood, homes and hope in the aftermath of natural disasters, and that those who have come to their aid will be protected. We pray that those who are in any need may never be forgotten. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We pray for the people of the Holy Land, Jews, Muslims and Christians, that you will be with them in these days of suffering and uncertainty and guide them and their leaders in the way of reconciliation, justice, hope and peace. We ask your blessing on our homes, our friends and family, and on those who live alone. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We pray this day for those who are struggling with health issues; for those who have inadequate or no healthcare; We pray for those we know who are ill at home or in the hospital, especially:
-
… and those we may name out loud, or in our hearts:
-
… knowing that you are doing for them better things than we can ask or imagine. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We commend to you all who have died in your peace, especially:
-
… that our trust in you may deepen as you keep them safe in your care, and we pray for all who mourn. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
We pray for those who have lost loved ones recently; and for those who struggle with addiction. Help us grow in love, forgiveness and mercy. God of love:
Hear our prayer.
God of truth, receive the prayers we offer you this day and give us grace to be faithful to our families, our communities, and the glorious creation you have made, through him who is not ashamed to call us siblings, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confession and Absolution
Dear friends in Christ,
God is steadfast in love
and infinite in mercy;
welcoming sinners
and inviting us to this table.
Let us confess our sins,
confident in God’s forgiveness.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

The Celebration of the Eucharist
The Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray,
Eternal God, your word inspires our faith. May we who offer you our praise trust you in all things. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

The Great Thanksgiving – Eucharistic Prayer 3
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth; by water and the Holy Spirit you have made us a holy people in Jesus Christ our Lord; you renew that mystery in bread and wine and nourish us, to show forth your glory in all the world.

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the holy people who have served you in every age, we raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name.
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore, Father, according to his command,
we remember his death,
we proclaim his resurrection,
we await his coming in glory;

and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread
Creator of all,
you gave us golden fields of wheat,
whose many grains we have gathered
and made into this one bread.
So may your Church be gathered
from the ends of the earth
into your kingdom.
The gifts of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.

Lamb of God
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world
               have mercy on us.
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world
               have mercy on us.
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world
               grant us your peace.
