The Holy Eucharist, October 11, 2020, 10:00 a.m. The Harvest Thanksgiving

October 11, 2020

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.

Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.
God’s mercy endures for ever.

Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Penitential Rite
We say sorry for the wrong we have done against God, the whole world, and our neighbor. As we prepare to celebrate, let us call to mind our sins and the sins of our society in the misuse of God’s creation.

God has blessed us, but still God’s children go hungry Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
God has blessed us, but still the poor cry out for justice Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
God has blessed us, but still we see inequality and oppression in the earth. Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

The Minister declares God’s forgiveness
May the God of Love bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins, and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn 262: Come, ye thankful people

Collect for Harvest Sunday
Let us pray,
Eternal God, you crown the year with your goodness and you give us the fruits of the earth in their season: grant that we may use them to your glory, for the relief of those in need and for our own well-being: through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen.

We stand to affirm our faith together:
We believe and trust
in God the Father
who made the world.

We believe and trust

who redeemed the world.

We believe and trust
in the Holy Spirit who gives life
to the people of God. Amen

The Prayers of the People (for Harvest)
Generous God, at this harvest time we thank you for all the good things you give us. As we thank you for our food, we remember all those who do not have enough for even one proper meal each day. Lord, bless all those who suffer because of the greed of others.

We pray for the homeless, and those who depend on the charity of others. We pray for the work of the foodbanks, providing food for those in need. Help us to share the harvests of the world more fairly, so everyone can be fed and there will be no more starvation. Lord of the harvest:
hear our prayer

At this harvest time, we thank you for the hard work of all those who grow, protect and prepare our food; for the shopkeepers, the transport delivery drivers, the processors and the farmers.

Bless all those, Lord, who do not earn a fair day’s pay for their hard work, both at home and in other countries. Help us to want to buy local produce and fairly traded goods wherever we can so that everyone can work with dignity and there will be no more poverty. Lord of the harvest:
hear our prayer

At this harvest time we thank you for the world we see around us; For the flowers, the trees and the animals. Bless all those who care for them, Lord.

Help us to protect your creation by being careful about how we use your resources, so that there will be clean water, clean air and plenty of wild birds, mammals and insects to maintain the ecological balance of our countryside. Lord of the harvest:
hear our prayer

We give thanks for all that is good in your creation and all who bring in the Harvest of the sea and the land. We are conscious of so much that we get wrong. So we give thanks too, for your grace and patience with us, when we fail to look after your world as we should. Help us to change so that we too become a new creation walking in the light of your Gospel. Lord of the harvest:
hear our prayer

At this harvest time we ask for your blessing on our families, friends and neighbours, and on those who are sick, especially…
·
We pray for those whose lives have been gathered in, to your presence, whose work here is done:
·
Help us to recognise the interdependence of all of life and the importance of just relations and community, and help us become good stewards of all you continue to give us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Lord of the harvest:
hear our prayer

Source of all life, and giver of all that is good, hear our prayers and grant us all that is in accordance with your will;
Merciful God, accept these prayers,
for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The PEACE
The harvest of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Hymn 465: Gather Us In

Prayer over the Gifts
Let us pray,
Source of all life, the heaven and earth are yours, yet you have given us dominion over all things. Receive the symbols of our labour and love which we offer you this day, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Lord of all life, you created the universe, where all living things reflect your glory. You give us this great and beautiful earth, to discover and to cherish.

You give us the fish in the sea, the birds of the air, and every plant and tree; the life that sleeps in the winter earth, and awakens again in the spring. You made us all, each wonderfully different, to join with the angels and sing your praise:
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son.

For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore, Father, according to his command,
we remember his death,
we proclaim his resurrection,
we await his coming in glory;

and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread
Creator of all,
you gave us golden fields of wheat,
whose many grains we have gathered
and made into this one bread.
So may your Church be gathered
from the ends of the earth
into your kingdom.

The gifts of God, for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

Hymn 259: For the Fruit of All Creation

Prayer
Let us pray,
Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies, to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work, to your praise and glory. Amen.

The Blessing
May God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who is the source of all goodness and growth,
pour his blessings upon all things created,
and upon you his children,
that you may use his gifts to his glory
and the welfare of all peoples.
And the blessing of God Almighty,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hymn 263: Praise to God, Immortal Praise

The Scattering
Freely you have received, so freely give.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ, Amen.
