The Holy Eucharist

The Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
       And also with you.

Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn 465: Gather Us In

Collect
Let us pray,
Almighty God, on the holy mount you revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured: mercifully deliver us from the darkness of this world, and change us into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Proclamation of the Word
A Reading From The Book Of Exodus
Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke with them. Afterward all the Israelites came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would take the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, the Israelites would see the face of Moses, that the skin of his face was shining; and Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Psalm 99
Refrain: The Lord our God is the Holy One.
The Lord is king; let the people tremble; he is enthroned upon the Cherubim; let the earth shake. The Lord is great in Zion; he is high above all peoples. Let them confess his name, which is great and awesome; he is the Holy One. R "O mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob." Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and fall down before his footstool; he is the Holy One. R Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his name, they called upon the Lord, and he answered them. He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; they kept his testimonies and the decree that he gave them. R "O Lord our God, you answered them indeed; you were a God who forgave them, yet punished them for their evil deeds." Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God and worship him upon his holy hill; for the Lord our God is the Holy One. R

The Holy Gospel
The Lord be with you.
  And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah " - not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!" When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.  9:28-36

The World of Gifts Thanksgiving
Brothers and sisters in Christ, the people of God in ancient times presented to the Lord an offering of first-fruits as a sign of their dependence upon God for their daily bread. Today, we bring forth grain as an offering of thanksgiving to God for God’s faithfulness.

Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life; those who come to me shall never be hungry and those who believe in me shall never thirst.’ John 6.35
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation; you bring forth grain from the fields and give us the fruits of the earth in their seasons. Accept this offering of thanksgiving, which we bring before you, it comes from the harvest of your goodness. Let it be for us a sign of your gracious care. Blessed are you, Lord our God, worthy of our thanksgiving and praise.
  Blessed be God for ever.

The World of Gifts Offering
God, the beginning and end of all things, in your wisdom and care you watch unceasingly over all creation; we offer our prayers that in us and in all your people your will may be done, according to your wise and loving purpose in Christ our Lord. Out of our abundance we offer this symbol of our love for you. Lord of all life:
  hear our prayer.

First Offering

We pray for governments and aid agencies, particularly for the PWRDF, Global Affairs Canada and our partners throughout the world, and for those areas of the world where there is disaster, drought and starvation. By the grace of your Spirit, touch our hearts and the hearts of all who live in comfortable plenty, and make us wise stewards of your gifts. Lord of all justice:
  hear our prayer.

Second Offering

We offer ourselves and our resources to your service, asking that by the Spirit at work in us, others may receive a rich harvest of love and joy and peace. Your Son has promised that the Spirit will lead us into all truth: we pray for the communities that will benefit from these animals, that they be tangible expressions of the fruit of the Spirit in love and joy and peace. Lord of all faithfulness:
  hear our prayer.

Third Offering

We pray for farmers and agricultural workers, for packers, distributors and company boards; as you have so ordered our life that we depend upon each other, create in all people an awareness of your grace that we will seek the well-being of every human being and every bit of what you have made. Lord of all creation:
  hear our prayer

Fourth Offering

We pray for all engaged in research to safeguard crops against disease, and to produce abundant life among those who hunger and whose lives are at risk. Prosper the work of their hands and the searching of their minds, that their labour may be for the welfare of all. Lord of all wisdom:
  hear our prayer.

Fifth Offering

We pray that all you desire for your people will be realized. You are at work in us and you have blessed us with generous hearts, fulfil your wise and loving purpose in us that we may show your transforming love and justice in the world. Lord of the harvest,
  hear our prayer.

Sixth Offering

You have created the universe by your eternal Word and have blessed humankind in giving us responsibility over the earth: we pray for the world, that we may honour and share its resources, and live in reverence for the creation and in harmony with one another. This old world is like a farm/and on this farm we like to share. Lord of the harvest,
  hear our prayer.

Seventh Offering

Prayers of the People
In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ,
let us pray to God.

Lord of glory, it is good that we are here. In peace we make our prayer to you. In trust we confirm our faith in you …
Help us to set our faces steadfastly to where you would have us go. Lord, look with favour.
  Lord, transfigure and heal.

Lord of glory, look with favour on your Church, proclaiming your beloved Son to the world and listening to the promptings of his Spirit …
May we be renewed in holiness that she may reflect your glory. Lord, look with favour.
  Lord, transfigure and heal.

Lord of glory, look with favour on the nations of the world, scarred by hatred, strife and war …
May they be healed by the touch of your hand. Lord, look with favour.
  Lord, transfigure and heal.

Lord of glory, look with favour on those in need and distress, suffering as your Son has suffered and waiting for the salvation you promise. We pray for those who are ill at home or in the hospital, especially those known to us…
May the day break and Christ the Morning Star bring them the light of his presence. Lord, look with favour.
  Lord, transfigure and heal.

Lord of glory, it is good if we suffer with you so that we shall be glorified with you. According to your promise bring all Christ’s brothers and sisters …
to see you with their own eyes in majesty and to be changed into his likeness from glory to glory.

To you be praise, dominion and worship now and for all eternity. Amen.

Confession and Absolution
Let us confess our sins,
confident in God’s forgiveness.

Silence is kept.
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
  And also with you.

The Celebration of the Holy Eucharist
Hymn 618: Glorious In Majesty

Prayer Over the Gifts
Let us pray,
Holy God, receive all we offer you this day, and bring us to that radiant glory which we see in the transfigured face of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer 5
The Lord be with you.
  And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

We give you thanks and praise, almighty God, for the gift of a world (of Gifts, a world) full of wonder, and for our life which comes from you. By your power you sustain the universe.
Glory to you for ever and ever.

You created us to love you with all our heart, and to love each other as ourselves, but we rebel against you by the evil that we do. In Jesus, your Son, you bring healing to our world and gather us into one great family. Therefore, with all who serve you on earth and in heaven, we praise your wonderful name, as we sing (say),

Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

We give you thanks and praise, loving Father, because in sending Jesus, your Son, to us you showed us how much you love us. He cares for the poor and the hungry. He suffers with the sick and the rejected.

Betrayed and forsaken, he did not strike back but overcame hatred with love. On the cross he defeated the power of sin and death. By raising him from the dead you show us the power of your love to bring new life to all your people.
Glory to you for ever and ever.

On the night before he gave up his life for us, Jesus, at supper with his friends, took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which is given for you.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends, and said, “Drink this, all of you: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which is shed for you and for many, so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.”
Glory to you for ever and ever.

Gracious God, with this bread and wine we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, and we offer ourselves to you in him.

Send your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts, that we may know the presence of Jesus in the breaking of bread, and share in the life of the family of your children.
Glory to you for ever and ever.

Father, you call us to be your servants; fill us with the courage and love of Jesus, that all the world may gather in joy at the table of your kingdom.

We sing your praise, almighty Father, through Jesus, our Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
Glory to you for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Silence

The Breaking of the Bread
“I am the bread of life,” says the Lord.
“Whoever comes to me will never be hungry;
whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are they who trust in him!
