The Collect of the Day
Let us pray,
Almighty God, without you we are not able to please you. Mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Proclamation of the Word
The Holy Gospel: Matthew 9:35-10:8

Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest." Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.' Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.

When all have been presented the celebrant asks the parents
and sponsors,
Will you be responsible for seeing that the children you present are nurtured in the faith and life of the Christian community?

Will you by your prayers and witness help these children to grow into the full stature of Christ?

Then the celebrant asks the following questions of the
candidates or the parents and sponsors.
Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of wickedness that rebel against God?

Do you renounce the evil powers of this world which corrupt
and destroy the creatures of God?

Do you renounce all sinful desires that draw you from the
love of God?
I renounce them.
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Saviour?

Do you promise to obey him as your Lord?

Let us now pray for these persons who are to receive the sacrament of new birth.
A person appointed leads the following litany.
Deliver them, O Lord, from the way of sin and death.
Lord, hear our prayer.
Open their hearts to your grace and truth.

Fill them with your holy and life-giving Spirit.
Lord, hear our prayer.
Teach them to love others in the power of the Spirit.

Send them into the world in witness to your love.

Bring them to the fullness of your peace and glory.

The leader concludes,

of Baptism
Thanksgiving over the Water
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over water
the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through water you led the
children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In
water your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy
Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and
resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of baptism. In it we are
buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it
we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we
bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Now sanctify this water by the power of your Holy Spirit,
that those who are here cleansed from sin and born again, may continue for ever
in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honour and
glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Let us pray,
God of reconciliation and forgiveness, the saving work of Christ has made our peace with you. May that work grow toward its perfection in all we offer you this day. We ask this in his name. Amen.

Gathered, at this time, often feeling like sheep without a shepherd, we long to sit as a disciple, and to be sent to proclaim Good News. We pray for the Church: that together we may create a world of compassion, and that we will be open to your love and be filled with gratitude for all the blessings in this world. We pray that in the warmth of summer; for times of recreation and re-creation; for lifeguards, security personnel and first responders. We pray that together we will see the value of every human being, that each one will have food, shelter, clothing and clean water: that everyone will have an opportunity for education and employment and access to healthcare and security. We pray that in all places of violence and injustice there will be peace and mercy. We pray for those who are ill at home or in the hospital, remembering especially,

thanks and praise, almighty God, for the gift of a world full of wonder, and
for our life which comes from you. By your power you sustain the universe.
You created us to
love you with all our heart, and to love each other as ourselves, but we rebel
against you by the evil that we do. In Jesus, your Son, you bring healing to
our world and gather us into one great family.
Therefore, with
all who serve you on earth and in heaven, we praise your wonderful name, as we

God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

We give you
thanks and praise, loving Father, because in sending Jesus, your Son, to us you
showed us how much you love us. He cares for the poor and the hungry. He
suffers with the sick and the rejected. Betrayed and forsaken, he did not
strike back but overcame hatred with love. On the cross he defeated the power
of sin and death. By raising him from the dead you show us the power of your
love to bring new life to all your people.
On the night
before he gave up his life for us, Jesus, at supper with his friends, took
bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “Take this,
all of you, and eat it: this is my body which is given for you.”
After supper,
Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends, and
said, “Drink this, all of you: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the
new and eternal covenant, which is shed for you and for many, so that sins may
be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.”
Gracious God,
with this bread and wine we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, and
we offer ourselves to you in him. Send your Holy Spirit on us and on these
gifts, that we may know the presence of Jesus in the breaking of bread, and
share in the life of the family of your children.
Father, you call
us to be your servants; fill us with the courage and love of Jesus, that all
the world may gather in joy at the table of your kingdom.
We sing your
praise, almighty Father, through Jesus, our Lord, in the power of the Holy
Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
